The New York Jets could be without one vital cog of their offense as they look to bounce back from a stinging Week 1 loss.

Starting running back Le’Veon Bell could miss a couple of weeks due to a hamstring injury, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini. The 28-year old Bell suffered the hamstring injury in the third quarter of New York’s 27-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills in their season opener. Before he went down with the injury, the three-time Pro Bowler had six carries for 14 yards and two catches for 32 yards.

Bell, who is playing in his second season for Coach Adam Gase and the Jets, played in 15 games in the 2019 season, finishing with 789 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns to go with 66 receptions for 461 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown. He spent the first five seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who selected him with the 48th overall pick in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Aside from being a three-time Pro Bowler, the Michigan State product also made the First Team All-Pro in 2014 and 2017 and the Second Team All-Pro in 2016.

In the 2018 season, however, he missed all of the Steelers’ games after the two sides couldn’t reach an agreement on a new contract. He became a free agent during the offseason before signing a four-year, $52.5 million contract with New York. Now, his quest to prove that he remains one of the league’s best running backs will be delayed by at least a couple of weeks.

The Jets, meanwhile, will take on the San Francisco 49ers in their Week 2 match on September 20.
