The New York Jets' rookie offensive tackle Mekhi Becton has already made his presence felt in the first few days of training camp. In fact, he has already turned his veteran teammates into believers this early in his career.

16-year veteran running back and 5-time Pro Bowler Frank Gore was one of them:

“He’s different, man,’’ the Jets' five-time Pro Bowler said. “One of the biggest guys I’ve been around.’’ “The first day, he was talking to me out there,’’ Gore said. “He was telling me he’s, ‘Got me,’ and, ‘I’m gonna make sure you get your 4 yards [per carry], I’m gonna take you where want to go.’ I liked that. I can tell he really likes to compete.

“I watched [tape of] him when he got drafted. To be able to move that well and be that big, that’s crazy.’’

His size and heft at 6'7″, 364-pounds were already astonishing to begin with. However, it was his mobility and athleticism that made him stand out from the other rookie tackles in his draft class. Becton's arrival will give the Jets its much-needed depth in the team's offensive line.

The rookie will attempt to follow in the footsteps of the Jets' last prolific offensive tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson, who already retired back in 2016. The three-time Pro Bowler spent all 10 seasons of his career for Gang Green, a feat that the rookie will aim to surpass by the end of his playing years.

Mekhi Becton's continuous development will be a scary sight for the rest of the league moving forward. His imposing presence and productivity will hopefully power the Jets to reach their playoff aspirations for the first time since 2010.
