The New York Jets have bolstered their scoring ability with the addition of Sam Ficken. The former Los Angeles Rams kicker is reportedly excited to start his Jets career and make an impact in games.

He is supposed to be the final answer for the team's kicker woes early this season. Head coach Adam Gase hopes that he finally found the kicker that can help the team win close games.

NorthJersey's Andy Vasquez recorded Gase's frustrations:

“We got a new one,” a smiling Gase said after the Jets signed Sam Ficken to be their fourth kicker since the start of the preseason just more than a month ago.

And while Gase was able to laugh about the situation on Wednesday, he’d like nothing more than for Ficken to be the guy and put those questions to rest.

“I am going into it with confidence, that he'll do a good job and that he's the right guy for us. I have to give him a shot. I have to give him a shot to go out there and execute, that's what we’re bringing him in here for.”

The team's kicker situation has been a mess as of late. After Jason Myers moved on to the Seattle Seahawks, the team has failed to find stability at the position. The problem reared its ugly head when they failed to score a field goal ahead in their narrow defeat to the Buffalo Bills.

Ficken, a former Penn State kicker with 97.3% accuracy in his four collegiate years, is ready to take the role and thrive in it:

“I try and go in and just be myself. I’m hitting the ball really well and confident in my swing. … My plan is to take it day by day and don’t get over my skis.”

Gase hopes that his newest addition to the team will be able to turn close games into notches in their victory column.
