The New York Jets are heading into the 2019 NFL season looking to surprise the rest of the league. It has been awhile since they were viewed as contenders, but have been slowly turning things around.

One of the big improvements that the Jets wanted to make this offseason was to their defense. They were able to do that in free agency with the big-time signing of linebacker C.J. Mosley. New York also was able to snag Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Jets have agreed to a deal with Williams with training camp getting underway.

Last season with the Crimson Tide, Williams ended up recording 71 total tackles to go along with 8.0 sacks and a defended pass. Those numbers show the kind of impact he can make for a defense. New York is hoping to see him replicate those numbers in his rookie season, although that would be a tall task.

Standing in at 6-foot-3 and just over 300 pounds, Williams is a very intimidating presence. The Jets haven't had a threat like him on the defensive line in a long time and will be welcomed right off the bat.

New York has a tough road ahead this season. They will have to compete with the defending champion New England Patriots in a tough AFC East. The AFC as a whole also improved this offseason.

Williams will have a big role right off the bat and getting him locked up now and into camp is a big plus.
