The New York Jets are finally dipping their toes into the chaos of the 2022 NFL Offseason. Ahead of free agency, the team has been discussing a future with Joe Flacco, 2013 Super Bowl MVP.

According to ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini, the feelings are mutual. He tweeted the news Wednesday morning.

Flacco has been with the Jets since he was traded by the Philadelphia Eagles in October of 2021 for a conditional sixth-round draft pick. The veteran quarterback played in two games to fill the vacancy of Zach Wilson, who suffered a knee injury just a day before the trade.

The 37-year-old is well past his prime years with the Baltimore Ravens, but his return to New York is worth noting.

Just last month, Jets legend Joe Namath voiced his opinion on Wilson, and it wasn't pretty. He has many doubts about the longevity of the young quarterback's career, saying “I like him, but I don’t know how long he’s going to last.”

If Namath is right, then the Jets need to get moving on a deal with Flacco, and fast. His contract expired following the 2021-2022 season. Unless the Jets make a deal with him before the beginning of the new league year, Flacco will be on the market as a free agent.

While he isn't a long-term solution to a potential starting quarterback problem, Flacco is a strong backup that would pump some life into the Jets if Wilson is unable to perform to the expected standards, or if he suffers another injury.
