The New York Jets claimed former Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman Jordan Willis off of waivers, the team announced on Wednesday. Subsequently, the Jets placed wide receiver Quincy Enunwa on injured reserve after suffering a neck injury.

A third-round pick in 2017, Willis gave the Bengals marginal production during his two seasons in Cincinnati. He started two games for the Bengals in 32 games played. In the process, tallying 45 combined tackles, two sacks, eight tackles for loss, and seven quarterback hits.

Once a 4-3 defensive end in Cincinnati, Willis will convert to outside linebacker in Gregg Williams' 3-4 scheme. Standing in at 6-foot-4 and 270-pounds, he has the size necessary to be a versatile weapon when called upon.

Currently, New York has Jordan Jenkins, Harvey Langi, Bronson Kaufusi, Kyle Phillips, and Tarrell Basham at outside linebacker. The position is a point of emphasis for improvement for the team.

Enunwa's placement on the injured reserve is a blow for the Jets offense. The slated him as a starter Week 1 and expected him to flourish after building a rapport with quarterback Sam Darnold in the season prior. After a successful 2018 season — amassing 38 receptions for 449 yards and a score — the Jets gave him a four-year $36 million contract extension.

Enunwa previously missed all of 2017 for a neck injury sustained in training camp; meaning, this is the second serious one he's dealt within the last three years.

Without Enunwa, the Jets will focus on Robby Anderson and Jamison Crowder in the passing game, along with former Pro Bowler Demaryius Thomas — whom they acquired for via a trade with the New England Patriots.
