When the New York Jets signed Frank Gore earlier this offseason, they were hoping for two things: For Gore to take some of the load off of Le'Veon Bell, and for him to bring leadership to a young locker room.

Thus far, they are already seeing the latter.

Jets head coach Adam Gase praised Gore's leadership this week, saying that it has been on full display in Zoom meetings. He added that it's the same type of presence that Gore brought to the table when Gase coached him with the Miami Dolphins in 2018.

Offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains also loves what he is seeing from the veteran, via ESPN's Rich Cimini:

“Oh, my gosh, I could go on for a long time. This guy has the ultimate chip on his shoulder.”

Gore spent the 2019-20 campaign with the Buffalo Bills, playing in 16 games and rushing for 599 yards and a pair of touchdowns while averaging 3.6 yards per carry.

It's a far cry from the type of production Gore posted during his prime with the San Francisco 49ers, but New York is merely hoping that he can provide a solid secondary option to Bell on the field and lend his experience to his teammates off of it.

The 37-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, was originally selected by the 49ers in the third round (65th pick overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft.

He made five Pro Bowls during his 10-year run in San Francisco, registering over 1,000 yards eight times in that span. Gore then joined the Indianapolis Colts for three seasons before linking up with Gase and the Dolphins in 2018.
