Veteran pass rusher Carl Lawson was not franchise tagged by the Cincinnati Bengals this offseason. As a result, it appears as though the talented defender has already found a new home around the NFL. According to a Monday evening report from Ian Rapoport of NFL.com and NFL Network, Lawson has agreed to a multi-year contract with the New York Jets, a team that has already been active early on in free agency.

According to Rapoport, Lawson and the Jets have agreed to a three-year, $45 million free-agent contract. With the newly-inked pact slated to include a whopping $30 million in guaranteed money, Lawson can ultimately make up to $47.5 million during his time with “Gang Green.”

The 25-year-old Carl Lawson previously spent his entire four-year NFL playing career as a member of the aforementioned Bengals. Cincinnati originally selected Lawson in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Auburn while he slowly became a rock-solid player for the Bengals.

Now ready to take the next step in his career after getting paid the big bucks for the first time, Lawson will look to make an impact for a Jets defense that will be led by first-year NFL head coach Robert Saleh.

Over the course of his 51 regular-season appearances atop the highest level, the former Bengals standout, now Jets newcomer, has tallied 81 total tackles and 20 sacks. Over the course of all 16 regular-season games in 2020-21, Carl Lawson produced 36 total tackles alongside 5.5 sacks in what would become his final go-round in Cincinnati.
