Reports indicate that the New York Jets have reached an impasse on their contract negotiations with safety Jamal Adams. As a result, they could be looking to ship him away leading up to the 2020 NFL season.

Hall of Famer Michael Irvin is known to have a close relationship with the Dallas-Fort Worth native. Irvin says that the Jets want a first and third-round pick in exchange for Adams, via Mike Fisher of SI.com:

Irvin – who according to DFW native Adams is “like an uncle to me” – delivers the news with an undeniable bias toward the player and toward the Cowboys. But the Hall-of-Fame receiver reports that the Jets “want a first- and a third-round pick” in any trade for the All-Pro.

Adams has established himself as one of the most talented, young players in the league on the cusp of elating to superstardom. And he has made it clear that he is hoping to get paid like one in New York. Unfortunately, his emergence has been met with some tumultuous headlines during his tenure thus far.

The latest rumored stalemate could be the final straw in New York attempts to get a long-term deal done. Since it appears they do not intend to keep Adams around as a foundational piece, they have seemingly shifted gears toward getting something in return for him.

The prospect of parting ways with a first and third-rounder may be considered to be a steep price tag. Regardless, it is clear that the two-time All-Pro has still managed to generate plenty of interest given the rumors swirling at last year's trade deadline. Among the teams that had inquired about his services were Irvin's own Dallas Cowboys.
