This offseason, the New York Jets added veteran quarterback Joe Flacco. Now they head into the regular season with five quarterbacks on their roster.

However, one of the reasons they have so many quarterbacks at the moment is Flacco's injury. He is working his way back from neck surgery and is not expected to be available for in-game action until the end of September.

That being said, he's getting closer. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN on Twitter, Flacco is practicing again, but is “limited” at the moment.

Sam Darnold is the starting quarterback in New York. That being said, Flacco could be very valuable to the team.

Flacco is a veteran with a lot of great experience. That includes a Super Bowl ring with the Baltimore Ravens that saw an incredible run by the quarterback. He will be a good presence for the other quarterbacks to learn from. Moreover, he is a fantastic insurance policy should anything happen to Darnold.

The fact that Flacco is now practicing at all also shows that he is clearly progressing well. He must be on-track to get back on the field by the end of the month if he is already practicing – even if it is in a “limited” capacity.

It will be interesting to see where they go from here. Obviously the Jets will want to be cautious and make sure everything checks out before taking the next step. How long will Flacco be practicing in a “limited” capacity though? Could he be back to full practices within the next two weeks? Or perhaps even by next week?

The regular season starts on Thursday. So it is clear Joe Flacco is not going to be ready for Week 1. However, there is clear positive progress with the quarterback. Relatively solid news for the New York Jets.
