Earlier this offseason, New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas said he wanted to make safety Jamal Adams a Jet for life. But recently, it was revealed that the Jets had not held any contract extension talks with Adams.

But fear not, Gang Green fans. It looks like discussions will get underway soon.

On Monday, Douglas told reporters that he will connect with Adams on extension talks after the NFL Draft, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Douglas once again reiterated that he wants to “keep Jamal here for a very long time.”

Adams, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by New York with the sixth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

It didn't take long for Adams to establish himself as one of the league's best safeties, as he totaled 83 tackles, a pair of sacks, a forced fumble, a pair of fumble recoveries and six passes defended during his rookie campaign.

Then, the following year, Adams showed significant improvement, racking up 115 tackles, 3.5 sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 12 passes defended en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Adams continued to impress in 2019, finishing with 75 tackles, 6.5 sacks, a pick, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, seven passes defended and a duo of defensive touchdowns. He made another Pro Bowl and earned a First-Team All-Pro selection for his efforts.

The Jets were rumored to have been shopping Adams in trade talks at the deadline back in October, which upset the 24-year-old. However, New York smoothed things over afterward, insisting that it was not trying to trade Adams. Now, it appears the two sides should approach a new deal soon, though Douglas was noncommittal about Adams becoming the team's highest-paid player.
