The New York Jets have made the necessary roster moves to trim their roster to 53 players and a notable quarterback on the team wasn't part of them. According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Jets have informed Joe Flacco that he'll be put on the active roster to begin the 2020 season.

Sam Darnold is slated to be the starting quarterback for the Jets for the third consecutive season and the team is confident that he'll begin to show progress this season. Still, after last year's debacle when Darnold missed games due to having mono, New York realized they needed to add a reliable veteran to back up Darnold.

So in May, the Jets signed Flacco to a one-year deal, immediately putting him behind Darnold on the depth chart. However, the veteran signal-caller is recovering from a neck injury that he suffered last season with the Denver Broncos.

Before the neck injury, Flacco had started in eight games for the Broncos. In those eight games, he produced 1,822 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions. Of course, Flacco is most known for his career with the Baltimore Ravens, where he won a Super Bowl in 2012.

When New York inked Flacco to a one-year deal, they knew that he wasn't going to be able to be ready for Week 1 of the 2020 season. After undergoing offseason surgery, it has been reported that Flacco will miss the first couple of games this season. Nonetheless, he'll be on New York's active roster and will be the No. 2 quarterback once he returns.
