The New York Jets will now select third in the 2018 NFL Draft due to picking up the phone and getting business done with the Indianapolis Colts.

Initially, in the six hole, Mike Maccagnan has pulled off a trade that sends that sixth pick, the 37th overall selection, 49th and the team's 2019 second-round pick for the Indianapolis Colts third overall choice in next month's NFL Draft. The Jets announced the news Saturday morning via the organization's official Twitter account.

According to the old Jimmy Johnson draft value chart, this deal matches up (for the most part). According to the newer draft value chart, the Jets overpaid significantly.

Either way, the only way to evaluate this thing is by results. If the Jets land a franchise quarterback, they did well.

Suddenly, the Cleveland Browns can no longer select Saquon Barkley, allow the New York Giants and Colts to take non-QBs and then take the first quarterback off the board in the four-hole. Becuase the Jets are at No. 3, the Browns will probably be forced to now select a QB.

Rumor has it the Buffalo Bills are also attempting to trade up and the Jets beat them to it. Should they successfully trade up to the No. 2 spot (with the Giants), the top three picks can be quarterback bound with the Jets taking the third.

Three second-round selections is a costly price to pay to move up just three spots, but this is the NFL: the place quarterbacks dominate. Until the rules change, it'll remain this way.
