This is a very important offseason for the New York Jets. After firing Todd Bowles, they're heading into the first year of the Adam Gase-era.

Sam Darnold showed plenty of promise as a rookie, and the Jets now need to build around him to help his development.

New York has plenty of cap space, and Jets GM Mike Maccagnan has said for months now that he plans to be very aggressive in free agency. The Jets also have plenty of draft capital at their disposal, and Maccagnan apparently plans to be aggressive with that as well.

Speaking earlier today at the combine, Maccagnan said the Jets would be open to trading down in the draft, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.

Cimini said that Maccagnan sounded “intrigued by possibility of gaining extra picks”, and that he would even be open to trading with their in-state rival, the Giants.

The Jets are currently slated to pick third overall. If they want to stock up on draft picks, they could probably find a trade partner who is looking to move up to grab a quarterback.

The Jets are obviously set under center with Darnold, so they have plenty of options. They've been heavily linked to some of this draft class' top pass-rushers, as they've been sorely lacking pressure off the edges in recent years.

A lot of mock drafts also have them taking an offensive tackle early, to help protect Darnold for years to come.

Maccagnan is no stranger to making bold draft trades. He made the biggest draft splash last offseason, by trading up from number six to number three a month before the draft.

They used that pick to take Darnold, and now it looks like they could be doing the opposite this offseason.
