The New York Jets have had plenty of injuries on the offensive side of the ball and their latest one will make them even thinner at tight end. According to Adam Schefter, New York is placing tight end Ryan Griffin on injured reserve.

During last week's game versus the Miami Dolphins, Griffin injured his ankle. The veteran tight end was forced to exit the game early and he was unable to practice so far this week.

The exact diagnosis of Griffin's injury has yet to be determined by the Jets. Nevertheless, it appears to be serious enough for New York to no longer have him available for the rest of the season.

With New York completely out of the playoff race, there's a chance they are taking a cautious approach with Griffin. Especially with the Jets committing to Griffin for another three years nearly a month ago.

Due to Chris Herndon being out for the year, Griffin has had an extended role in the offense. In 13 starts, Griffin has combined for 34 receptions for 320 yards and five touchdowns. The five touchdown catches are the most in Griffin's seven-year career in the NFL.

As a result of his play this season, New York handed Griffin a three-year extension that is worth $10.8 million. Giving him an extension this early into his time with the organization showed how much Adam Gase was impressed with his performance.

On Thursday against the Baltimore Ravens, New York will be inclined to start Daniel Brown at tight end. Brown, who began his career with the Ravens, has caught 38 passes for 353 yards and two touchdowns in his career.
