The New York Jets may have their next defensive coordinator lined up after hiring Adam Gase as their head coach this past Wednesday. Former Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator turned interim head coach Gregg Williams may be the Jets new defensive play caller.

Williams did a fantastic job with the Browns as the interim head coach. The Browns finished off the season with a 5-3 record once Williams took over as the team's head coach. Cleveland got their first win in close to two years back in Week 3 of the 2018 season. It was a pleasant and shocking surprise to everyone that Cleveland ended the season at 7-8-1. It likely won't take Williams long to find a new job even if things don't work out with the Jets for whatever reason.

Cleveland played at an extremely high level this season once Williams took over and whatever formula he was using clearly worked out for the Browns. The Browns ultimately decided to go in a different direction next season with an offensive minded coach. New head coach Freddie Kitchens was likely the right choice to complement quarterback Baker Mayfield as well as wide receiver Jarvis Landry and running back Nick Chubb.

The Jets could benefit incredibly with Williams as their new defensive coordinator, and they have incredible talent on that side of the ball. Safety Jamal Adams has proven to be one of the best in the league at his position. In addition, cornerback Trumaine Johnson will likely be in line for a bounce-back season after a disappointing 2018 campaign. Linebacker Darron Lee is extremely fast for his position and could very well play at an even higher level next season.

Williams could turn the Jets defensive unit around next season and bring back Gang Green from a handful of years ago.
