New York Jets wide receiver Denzel Mims was finally able to take part in practice after being sidelined for all of training camp due to an injured hamstring. Despite his lack of participation, he was able to provide an update on his status for the 2020 NFL season opener against the Buffalo Bills.

According to Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press, Mims fully expects to play Week 1:

”Most definitely,” a confident Mims said Wednesday after participating in his first practice of training camp.

”It feels amazing,” Mims said. ”It felt really good to compete at practice, get back in a rhythm and get my feet wet a little, catch some balls and just be out there with my teammates.”

New York opted to take a cautious approach with Mims' recovery after injuring the hamstring just prior to the start of camp. Although the rookie is still trying to find his footing following an unprecedented offseason due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, this has not deterred him from making his first career start as scheduled.

The Jets have high hopes that Mims can emerge as a viable option for quarterback Sam Darnold in the passing game. The second-round pick is looking to etch out an integral role in this receiving corps headed by Jamison Crowder and Breshad Perriman.

Mims' participation leading up to the start of the 2020 campaign should help solidify his healthy status. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen when Perriman will make his way back to practice after experiencing some swelling in his injured knee.
