Could the New York Jets really trade running back Le'Veon Bell one year into his deal?

It seems like a possibility.

Jets head coach Adam Gase doesn't seem to want anything to do with Bell, and general manager Joe Douglas hasn't exactly given Bell a vote of confidence, either, saying that he is “going to listen” if teams call to inquire about the three-time Pro Bowler this offseason, according to Brian Costello of The New York Post.

It's important to keep in mind that Douglas was not a member of New York's front office when the club signed Bell last March. That was a move that was made by Mike Maccagnan, who was fired from his post as general manager before the 2019 campaign began.

Taking that into consideration, it would not be surprising if Douglas did shop Bell around this offseason. Remember: there was trade chatter swirling around Bell at the trade deadline, so the Jets have probably already explored this option.

The problem is that Bell has three years and around $40 million remaining on his deal, making him a difficult piece to move, especially after a lackluster season in which he rushed for 789 yards and three touchdowns while averaging a meager 3.2 yards per carry, his least productive campaign since his rookie year back in 2013.

There would surely be some teams who would love to add Bell to their roster, but whether or not they would want to bring him aboard at that cost—especially if they have to sacrifice assets to acquire him—is another story.
