The New York Jets re-signed linebacker Jordan Jenkins, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Jenkins, 25, led the Jets in sacks during their 2019 campaign. He inked a one-year deal worth just $5 million to stay with Gang Green.

A fourth-year linebacker out of Georgia, Jenkins was selected by the Jets in the third round of the 2016 draft, surviving from one front office (Mike Maccagnan) to the next one (Joe Douglas) with his second NFL contract with the same team.

Jenkins was reportedly heading to a different franchise while teams had the opportunity to speak to players prior to the official free agency period. According to The Athletic's Connor Hughes, Jenkins agreed to a one-year deal to stay with the Jets after the AFC East club appeared out of the running mere weeks ago.

In his fourth year with New York, Jenkins finished the 2019 season with 21 solo tackles, nine tackles for losses, 15 quarterback hits, a career-best and team-leading eight sacks, and two forced fumbles.

The Jets also re-signed another linebacker on Monday, James Burgess, a journeyman in the defense who led the team in combined tackles.

Currently, the Jets' defense revolves around former first-round selection and Pro Bowl free-roaming safety Jamal Adams, the star on that side of the team, who received a roster bonus this week. After the past year saw rumors that general manager Joe Douglas and the Jets wanted Adams out, it appears the safety, who lines up and covers receivers, too, will stay with the New York–New Jersey franchise.
