It looks like the New York Jets have lost the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes, with the free-agent quarterback expected to sign with the Minnesota Vikings later this week. That means that Jets must find another quarterback to fill their glaring need at that position this offseason.

The Jets could potentially draft one with their sixth overall pick. But they could also chase another free-agent QB like Teddy Bridgewater, which ESPN’s Dianna Russini reports they will do in the wake of Cousins likely signing with Minnesota.

Bridgewater has stated that he wants to start in 2018, and with Cousins’ impending arrival in Minnesota, he’s highly unlikely to do so if he stays with the Vikings. That means he will likely leave the team this offseason to find that opportunity, which the Jets are apparently eager to provide.

Bridgewater finally made his return to the field last season after he spent close to two years recovering from the traumatic knee injury he suffered in 2016. Prior to his knee injury, he looked like he had the makings of a potential franchise quarterback. He had 3,231 passing yards with 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2015 as he led the Vikings to the playoffs and also earned a Pro Bowl selection.

Despite his potentially career-threatening knee injury, he’s still just 25 years old and could still be able to fulfill all of his potential. The Jets will certainly be counting on that if they do manage to convince him to come to New York and be their possible long-term solution at quarterback.
