The New York Jets own the third overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, but this time around, the Jets are not in search of a franchise quarterback, as they picked up Sam Darnold in last year's draft.

Given the fact that Darnold is now under center and the Jets' offseason splurge to add some more talent on both sides of the ball, it might benefit New York to actually trade down in the draft to collect some more picks.

Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan is not hiding the fact that the Jets have interest in moving down:

“We’re very open to potentially moving back from three,” Maccagnan said Monday at the NFL’s annual meeting, according to Brian Costello of The New York Post. “I wouldn’t envision us moving up in the draft. I think you can rule that one out. If we end up staying at three and taking a player, we think there are some very good players at three. But we’d definitely be interested if another team came with an offer that we felt was worthy of moving out of the spot. We would definitely consider that. Not to say we’re committed to doing it, but we’d definitely be very intrigued by that.”

New York is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which it won just four games. The Jets have not made the playoffs since the 2010 campaign, when they made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game for the second straight year.

Gang Green's recent ineptitude resulted in the firing of head coach Todd Bowles after four seasons. New York replaced Bowles with former Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase earlier this offseason.
