The New York Jets are holding kicking tryouts on Sunday and one of those guys getting a shot is Blair Walsh, according to the New York Daily News. According to the Daily News, Chris Blewitt will also be in the tryout group.

The Jets went into training camp with Chandler Catanzaro as the kicker on the roster, but he struggled in the teams first preseason game missing two extra points, and it has caused the team to at least look at other options. He was cut last season by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for being ineffective, and during training camp, he has been shaky at best.

Walsh at one point was considered one of the best kickers in the league but after a missed game-winning field goal in the 2016 wild card game for the Minnesota Vikings, he never has regained form.

After Thursday's game, coach Adam Gase said there wasn't anything bad about creating competition and at this point, he is just looking for consistency out of the kicking game.

“I don’t think there’s ever a downside to creating competition,” Gase said after Catanzaro’s rough night. “Where we’re at right now going through the spring, there’s been some really good moments where there’s been some consistency there. We just need to kind of get back to our rhythm with the snapper, holder, kicker.”

With Gase wanting competition it seems realistic that the Jets will decide to at least sign one kicker to compete for the starting job. Look for more about this story after the tryout is complete.
