The Kansas City Chiefs added to an NFL offseason for the ages when they traded All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday. Hill's contract talks, which got off to a good start, evidently soured, which led to the speedy wideout's shocking availability on the trade block. Two teams quickly emerged as suitors for Hill: the Dolphins and the New York Jets, who both coveted the talented wideout as a top target for their respective young quarterbacks. While the Dolphins ultimately landed the grand prize thanks to their huge offer to the Chiefs, the Jets were seemingly in the running until the end. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo revealed the Jets' offer to the Chiefs for Hill, which would have set New York up very nicely in the AFC East for multiple reasons.

Per Garafolo, the Jets offered their two second-round draft picks but didn't include either of their two first rounders in trade talks with the Chiefs for Tyreek Hill. Clearly, acquiring Hill while also being able to keep their two first round picks would have made the Jets a far more interesting bet in the AFC East next year.

However, New York also effectively ruined any chance of trading for the star wideout with said offer. The Green Bay Packers set the blueprint for elite wide receiver trades with the Davante Adams deal to the Las Vegas Raiders- and the Chiefs made it very clear that they were seeking a similar level of compensation.

What made the Jets think they could coax the Chiefs to budge off of their asking price for Hill? The Dolphins were armed with more cap space and thus able to pay the Pro Bowler more handsomely than New York could.

The Jets needed to blow the Chiefs away with their offer for Hill and inexplicably failed to do so.
