The New York Jets suffered their 12th consecutive defeat of the season on Sunday, as they allowed the Las Vegas Raiders to mount a rather contentious come from behind victory.

Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was on the receiving end of some heavy criticism for the part he played in New York's loss, and there was perhaps none more harsh than that from former Jets coach Rex Ryan. Unfortunately for Ryan, his lambasting of Williams seems to have backfired on him, courtesy of some of the best investigators/historians on the mean streets of Twitter.

For starters, here's what Ryan had to say about Williams' decision to call for an all-out blitz in a crucial juncture late in the contest, which ultimately resulted in an astounding game-winning touchdown for the Raiders. Ryan did not hold back with his criticism:

“Dumbest call I’ve ever seen,” said Ryan, via ESPN's Get Up (h/t Rich Cimini of ESPN). “Been around the thing for 58 years, 30 years as a coach. That’s the dumbest call ever. There’s a time and place for Cover-0. That sure ain’t it. It’s just stupid.”

Some folks on Twitter seem to have taken offense to Ryan's attack on Williams, and they decided to bring up a not so fond memory from the former's coaching days. One particular user that goes by the handle @RaskinDailyMail threw it all the way back to 2014 to a time where Ryan himself made a pretty disastrous call for the Jets:

As it turns out, not only was Ryan faced with a similar scenario some six years ago, but more importantly, he made the exact same mistake. New York ended up losing that game to the Vikings, 24-20.

Maybe this will remind Ryan to review his own history the next time he decides to dole out some harsh criticism on air. After all, he's been “around the thing for 58 years, 30 years as a coach”, so surely, he too has had his fair share of blunders.

Then again, Ryan may not be completely in the wrong here. As a matter of fact, the Jets brass seem to agree with his stance to some extent, with the front office recently deciding to fire Williams in the wake of Sunday's debacle.
