The New York Jets paid homage to franchise legend Darrelle Revis following his announcement to retire. To no surprise, former head coach Rex Ryan wasted no time in singing his praises as well.

It goes without saying that Revis cemented his place as one of the greatest cornerbacks to ever play this game. However, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Ryan feels he is right up there with Deion Sanders:

“I think he’s the best corner, period, at any one stretch,” Ryan said. “I thought he was the best corner. Obviously, he never had the longevity of Deion. So, you would take Deion ahead of him. But the few years that I had him, he was as dominant of a player as there was in the league.”

Ryan's comments should come as no surprise. As his former coach, he got to see Revis' greatness up close and personal. Even when the Jets' star had held out during contract negotiations, Ryan was never shy about expressing his desire to sign him.

While some may credit some bias in his comparisons, his claims certainly are not far-fetched. At his peak, Revis was as dominant as any corner in NFL history, including “Primetime.” For years, he managed to subject the NFL's best wideouts to a stay at “Revis Island.”

Some may look at his mere 29 career interceptions as a blemish, however, it is indicative of how much teams threw away from him. The only other corner known for forcing an offense to one side of the field was Sanders himself. That said, it is safe to assume Revis will not have to wait long to receive his induction into the Hall of Fame.
