Earlier this offseason, it was looking like Robby Anderson and the New York Jets were inevitably going to part ways. But now, Anderson appears to be leaving the door open to a return.
The free-agent wide receiver appeared on ESPN's NFL Live on Tuesday, and during his segment, he said that he and the Jets have mutual interest in a long-term deal, via Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Anderson has spent the first four years of his career with New York and is coming off of a 2019 campaign in which he played every game and caught 52 passes for 779 yards and five touchdowns.
The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Temple, went undrafted but eventually landed with the Jets in 2016.
He ended up being a rather pleasant surprise during his rookie year, appearing in every contest and finishing with 42 catches for 587 yards and a couple of scores.
The following season, Anderson had his best season to date, once again participating in every game and hauling in 63 receptions for 941 yards while reaching the end zone seven times.
Anderson then played in 14 games in 2018, snaring 50 balls for 752 yards and six touchdowns.
While the Teaneck, N.J. native has never logged a 1,000-yard campaign, he has not exactly had a stable quarterback situation as a member of the Jets, so it's entirely possible that he could flourish on another club or if young Jets quarterback Sam Darnold comes into his own next season.
Anderson is also very durable, having missed just two contests thus far in his NFL tenure.
