New York Jets fourth-year wideout Robby Anderson is now under the tutelage of two-time Super Bowl champion Hines Ward.

Ward, invited as an “intern” coach during the Jets' training camp this summer, has brought the 26-year-old Anderson under his wing. Ward is a Super Bowl MVP and retired wide receiver who played 14 seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers and went to four Pro Bowls.

Ward, hired as a coaching intern in training camp, arrived on Monday and gravitated toward Anderson, a talented, but still-developing wide receiver. In Ward, he has a personal tutor who played with attitude, toughness and intelligence — a role model who has succeeded in his post-football life.

The Jets already have a well-respected receivers coach in Shawn Jefferson, a fine receiver in his day, but general manager Joe Douglas reached out to Ward, hoping he could bring another perspective.

“It's a great resource,” Anderson said of Ward. “He's done it at a high level consistently. He's a future Hall of Famer. Like, what else can I ask for?”

Anderson, an undrafted wide receiver out of Temple, signed with the Jets in 2016 and has since worked his way as a long-ball option for New York, utilizing his quickness to out-run opposing secondaries. Anderson is learning to be a more dynamic wideout with the help of the future Hall of Famer Ward and turn himself into a bona fide No. 1 option for the Jets' second-year quarterback Sam Darnold.

Anderson had 50 receptions in 14 games last season, scoring six touchdowns and recording 752 yards—all leading the Jets in 2018.
