The New York Jets used the third overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft to select quarterback Sam Darnold.

His first year with the team was definitely a roller coaster. He finished with 17 touchdowns compared to 15 interceptions, but came on strong near the end of the year.

Now Darnold is looking to build off that with a strong offseason, hoping to turn that into an improved second year. How's he doing that, you ask?

Okay, let's start off with the obvious point here. Throwing sessions aren't a new thing. I'm not trying to pretend like Sam Darnold is some genius for putting one together. I can almost guarantee every team has had at least a few players get together this offseason to work out as a group.

However, it's a great showing of maturity that Darnold has now set up two this offseason in just his second year.

It's especially encouraging when considering how clear it was that he needed to improve after last season. Clearly he believes the same and is ready to take the necessary steps to figuring it all out in the NFL.

Another important factor is getting the chemistry down. The Jets have some new pieces (like Le'Veon Bell and Jamison Crowder) in their offense. It's important that Darnold figures everything out with them before the start of the season. Even if they aren't in on these sessions, he's improving his chemistry with others, meaning he can focus on those two at actual camp.

Go ahead and point out the obvious. This isn't all that exciting. Sam Darnold is simply doing what every other quarterback does – having some offseason throwing sessions. However, it's a lot better than if he wasn't doing it at all.

The quarterback is giving New York Jets fans a reason to believe in him, and that's newsworthy enough.
