As the New York Jets prepare for the New England Patriots on Sunday the big question is will Sam Darnold get the start under center. Darnold is two weeks removed from a foot injury and even though he missed Monday's practice, Darnold is still hopeful he can be out there on Sunday.

“It feels good. It feels great,” said Darnold, who has started jogging via ESPN. “Nothing for me to complain about. No pain, either.”

Coach Todd Bowless was asked about his rookie quarterback's status and wasn't willing to reveal much. Bowles said that Darnold is day-to-day or week-to-week but did say if he can't go during Wednesday's practice it will be a good indication of his chances to play.

The Jets won't be making the playoffs so if there is any doubt the Jets won't be taking any chances and it will be Josh McCown getting the start for the second game in a row.

“The foot is really good,” said Darnold. “I feel really good. Like I said last week, I'm just following protocol right now.”

The Jets have had issues keeping Darnold upright which means the team will probably be ultra cautious bring him back. McCown struggled in his start against the Buffalo Bills throwing for only 135 yards and two touchdowns. If Darnold is able to go, it will be his first start against the Patriots, and it's something he is looking forward too.

“I think the idea of going up against him and the Patriots, coach Belichick and all those guys, it's a cool thing, especially with me growing up in the era where they really controlled the whole NFL, for the most part,” Darnold said. “It would be really cool if I have the opportunity.”
