New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has hung up his cleats for good following the 2019 NFL season. New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is hoping to take his place in the Big Apple.

Darnold made it clear that he hopes to follow in Manning's footsteps of being a successful athlete in New York:

“Eli's had a heck of a career, hopefully that's me one day”

It has been quite the time of year for New York sports fans. Not only is Manning retired but they also got to see New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter get nearly unanimously inducted to the Hall of Fame. As a result, they are now looking toward the next generation of star athletes to carry the torch.

Although Manning may have finished his career with a .500 winning percentage as a starter, he managed to etch out his place in the history books with not one, but two memorable performances in the Super Bowl that resulted in the Giants beating the Patriots both times. While his trophy case may not be decorated with individual honors, the two Super Bowl wins will serve as Manning's ticket to the Hall of Fame.

It is safe to say that Sam Darnold would be more than happy to finish his career winning two Super Bowls for the Jets. The team is still a long way from establishing themselves as bonafide contenders. Regardless, having a franchise quarterback like Darnold certainly helps to speed up the process in this day and age.
