New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold will return to practice on Wednesday, the first time he has practiced since he was diagnosed with mono according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.

Darnold still hasn't been cleared for contact but he can still practice with the team but until he is cleared for contact he can't play in a game. His next check will be Friday with the doctors and there is a chance he could be cleared.

Jets coach Adam Gase wasn't optimistic earlier this week about Darnold playing on Sunday but on Wednesday he revealed there could be a chance.

“I like our odds better than what they’ve been,” Gase said via the NY Daily News. “Last week, if we would have been playing a game, I would have said it’s really low [that he plays]. I like the fact that things have looked and progressed in the right direction… There’s some gray there still.”

Gase said that if he is cleared there is a chance he still wouldn't play if he doesn't look good in practice and that's why the next few days are so big for him.

“That’s why we’re practicing,” Gase said. “If it doesn’t look right, then we’ll go in a different direction. That’s the communication with him, the communication with the doctors, the coaches, it’s a lot of people that are going to be involved in this conversation.”

If Darnold can play this weekend that would be a huge boost for an offense that has struggled to move the ball without him.
