Sam Darnold and Robbie Anderson both started off their careers with the New York Jets, with the latter arriving two years before the team selected a highly-touted Darnold as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Both players are now with the Carolina Panthers, and at this point, Anderson could not help but look back at their time in New York with a bit of regret.

Anderson threw the Jets under the bus for how they supposedly mismanaged Darnold when he started his career in the NFL. According to the 29-year-old wide receiver, New York is partly to blame for his quarterback not being able to reach his true potential:

“I will say this with Sam though, I feel like his development was all messed up coming into the league,” Anderson said about Darnold, via Matthew Neschis of the New York Post. “Look at Pat [Mahomes] and look at Lamar [Jackson], they ain’t play right away. I don’t feel like Sam should have played right away so … I feel like his career got jump-started the wrong way.

“I feel like being in the building, the coaches … it wasn’t right,” he continued. “So in his defense, I don’t feel like he was developed 100% correctly.”

Right now, Darnold appears to be on the brink of losing his role as the Panthers' starting quarterback. The arrival of Baker Mayfield could mean the end of Darnold's QB1 days. If you ask Anderson, though, it is clear that he is pinning some of the blame on their former team amid Sam Darnold's fall from grace.
