The New York Jets officially introduced free-agent signings Trumaine Johnson, Isaiah Crowell, and Cairo Santos as the newest members of the team, but quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was conspicuously left out. Based on his significant knee injury, it was possible Bridgewater that might have been because he was about to suffer the same fate as Ryan Grant and Bashaud Breeland, whose deals were voided by failed physicals.

But as Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith reports, Bridgewater has indeed passed his physical, and it’s just a matter of time before he signs his one-year deal.

Shortly after we pointed out the absence of an official announcement on the signing, a league source told PFT that Bridgewater has passed his physical, and the Jets will announce that he has signed.

Bridgewater suffered a major knee injury in 2016 which saw him miss all but one regular-season game over the last two years. Prior to his knee injury, though, he showed signs of being a capable starting quarterback who had the ability to guide his team all the way to the playoffs.

It remains to be seen whether Bridgewater will actually get the chance to play and show the Jets he’s anywhere close to that level. Aside from him, New York still has some other quarterbacks in Josh McCown, Christian Hackenberg, and Bryce Perry on the roster. They will also very likely pick up another QB in the draft after they moved up to No. 3 in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts.

But at the very least, Bridgewater will have a contract next season, as well as an opportunity to compete for snaps if he remains healthy.
