The New York Jets had intended to retain All-Pro safety Jamal Adams in spite of his trade request and recent comments about head coach Adam Gase. However, the Seattle Seahawks' inclusion of an additional first-round pick proved too tempting for the Jets.

ESPN's Rich Cimini reported the deal was as good as done once the NFL and NFLPA finalized salary cap arrangements:

More on Jamal Adams trade: The Jets and Seahawks started talking several weeks ago. Things got serious when Seattle sweetened the offer with a second first-round pick; that occurred a few weeks ago. So, no, this didn't come together in a few days. Framework was in place Friday. Final obstacle was NFL-NFLPA agreement on 2020-2021 salary caps, which had concerned Seattle. Adams' criticism of the Jets had no impact on the outcome. They were prepared to keep him, but felt the offer was too enticing.

It is interesting to hear Adams' recent criticism had no bearing on the Jets' stance on keeping him. Naturally, that speaks to how highly they view his talent.

Seahawks GM John Schneider clearly feels Adams is a game-changer. The Seahawks seemed to have more needs up front than in the secondary, but Schneider was willing to pay a massive price to acquire a guy who lines up all over the field and routinely makes plays in the backfield.

Adams had 6.5 sacks, 13 quarterback hits and ten tackles for a loss last year. He is a disruptor also capable of taking the ball back the other way for a touchdown.

Time will tell whether Seattle gave up too much to acquire Adams from the Jets. Cimini's report makes it clear how valued he is by both teams.
