New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles was cautiously optimistic regarding his rookie quarterback's status for Sunday's upcoming matchup against the New England Patriots.

Unfortunately, Sunday is coming up fairly soon so Bowles may have a better idea than he is leading the media and fans to believe. Darnold is still recovering from a sore right foot injury and has not practiced.

Darnold has been solid at times during his rookie season, but his number of touchdown passes (12) is less than his interceptions total (14).  Darnold's last game was against the Miami Dolphins in which he threw for no touchdown passes and four interceptions. The former USC star missed the matchup against the Buffalo Bills and still appears to be on the fence for this upcoming week even after the team's bye week.

The Jets are 3-7 this season after coming out guns blazing in Week 1 to beat the Detroit Lions, 48-17. Unfortunately for the Jets they are an incredibly young team in the midst of a lengthy and strenuous rebuild. New York may have their quarterback of the future but they lack a run game and no real threat in the passing game.

The offense isn't the only problem for the Jets, unfortunately. New York is light years away from their vicious defense that once was feared throughout the league a handful of years ago. Darnold is caught in the middle of a rebuild, but he could the man of the future for the Jets as long as he gets his turnover total way down.
