ESPN analyst Todd McShay has removed himself from consideration for a spot in the front office of the New York Jets. After Joe Douglas was hired as the general manager of the Jets, McShay came out and said that he was a candidate to get a job in New York.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, McShay has decided to pull his name out of consideration, but he has no more public comments.

This really isn't that shocking, but there are some questions about why he pulled his name out of the hat. According to sources of Pro Football Talk, McShay was never really a candidate for the job.

Was this a case where McShay really didn't want a job with the Jets and wanted to stay with ESPN, or is this a situation where McShay knew he wasn't going to get a job and decided to “pull his name out” before it became public information that he wasn't going to be hired.

This situation could happen more often now that Mike Mayock, who used to be an analyst for NFL Network, is the general manager of the Oakland Raiders.

Being an NFL analyst and having your name floated for a job on an NFL team gives these analysts a bit more credibility. This also could be a case where McShay wanted more money from ESPN so he floated his name with the Jets in hopes that ESPN would give him a pay raise or a new contract.
