Robby Anderson wants to remain with the New York Jets for a long time. Although he is tremendously talented, he has not been the go-to target for New York quarterbacks that many were expecting. The third-year receiver has had an eventful time in New York. Along with tremendous play on the field, he has had off-the-field issues as well. Still, he does not lack confidence as he positions himself for a new contract, per Manish Mehta of The Daily News.

“I think we all know what I’m capable of doing,” Anderson told the Daily News in a wide-ranging discussion about his present and future. “I think that’s obvious.”

He has made it very clear that he does not want a restricted free agent tender from the Jets after the season, and that he wants to be in New York long-term.

Anderson has caught 23 passes for 368 yards and three touchdowns in 2018. His best game of the season came on October 7 against the Denver Broncos. In that contest, he caught three passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns. That averaged out to an astounding 41 yards per reception.

Anderson needs to prove himself over the next couple of games in order to warrant discussing a new contract. He had a great year last year, but the National Football League is a “What-have-you-done-for-me-lately” type of league. Granted, his underperformance this season is not entirely his fault. The Jets have been trying to ease rookie Sam Darnold into the fold. That will come with some growing pains. As a whole, the New York Jets offense has not been great, ranking 29th in the National Football League in total offense.

It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out. There is no doubt that Anderson is talented. It is truly a matter of how much the team values him compared to other players on the team. If they were smart, they would at least consider a long-term deal.
