The New York Jets have put themselves in position to snag one of the top quarterbacks in this year's draft after making a major trade with the Indianapolis Colts to move up to the third overall spot. It was a sudden move that has made clear what the team's plans are with their first-round selection.

It was a hefty price tag that the team had to give up in order to acquire the asset with three second-round selections and the sixth overall pick to move up to that pristine spot. According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets were also reportedly looking to go up much higher in the draft order.

The deal happened fast because the Jets, who also inquired about trading up with the Browns for the No. 1 overall pick, according to sources, were prepared. The groundwork set in Mobile in January gave them a good starting point in discussions after Cousins was no longer an option.

The fact that New York had gauged the Cleveland Browns' interest in moving the first overall pick makes it even more evident that their eyes are directed at adding a promising quarterback. This is even after the team has brought back Josh McCown and signed former Minnesota Vikings' quarterback Teddy Bridgewater into the mix.

The Jets are now in the position to possibly take one of the top quarterbacks in USC's Sam Darnold, UCLA's Josh Rosen, Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield or Wyoming's Josh Allen. The team in one way or another will have a promising talent on the roster before the start of the 2018 season.

At this point, the only mystery is which quarterback that the Jets are targeting at the third overall pick. The team should give some indication by which quarterbacks they plan to workout ahead of the draft.

Whoever the team takes, the organization will be all in on making them the next franchise quarterback.
