The New York Jets signed Isaiah Crowell signed a three-year contract with the team before last season but according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

If Crowell is on the roster on the third day of the new league year, he is guaranteed $2 million which means he will probably be released before then.

Isaiah Crowell will be a goner after the Jets sign a free-agent running back next month. He has an additional $2 million that will become fully guaranteed if he’s on the roster by the third day of the new league year (March 15). The Jets should have a new running back by March 15. So it’s unlikely that Crowell will see that money.

Crowell was a nice addition for most of last season for the Jets rushing 143 times for 685 yards and six touchdowns. The biggest problem for Crowell was he couldn't get consistent carries.

In their second to last game against the Tennessee Titans he had 21 carries, but in the last game against the Buffalo Bills, he only had two rushes for five yards.

If Crowell is released, the big question is who do the Jets bring in to replace him. Mehta has previously reported that it is expected the Jets will make a big push for Le'Veon Bell but won't break the bank for him. Another guy that Mehta mentions that could be a candidate is Tevin Coleman.

The other factor: Coleman, who has never had more than 168 carries in of his four seasons with the Falcons, won’t come with the same hefty price tag as Bell. Truth be told, Coleman is a quality fallback option for the Jets if Bell signs elsewhere. He would be a part of a nice 1-2 punch with Eli McGuire in the backfield. Both guys would be dual threats in Adam Gase’s offense.
