There had been some rumors that the New York Jets planned to trade out of the No. 3 overall pick in next month's NFL Draft, but it looks like that talk is dying down a bit. The new hot rumor is that the Jets will, in fact, keep that pick and will use it to draft University of Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN NFL Nation.

If New York is staying with a 3-4 defense, Allen would certainly make sense, as his pass-rushing ability seems tailor-made for that style.

Allen is coming off of a fantastic senior campaign in which he racked up 88 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 17 sacks, five forced fumbles, and a couple of fumble recoveries.

For a Jets defense that was just middle of the pack in rushing the quarterback with 39 sacks this past season, Allen would definitely be a terrific addition.

While his final year at Kentucky represented his breakout campaign, Allen was also impressive in previous seasons.

He began earning significant playing time during his sophomore campaign, finishing with 62 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and four forced fumbles. Then, during his junior year, Allen totaled 66 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, an interception, and a pair of forced fumbles.

New York won just four games this past season, resulting in the firing of head coach Todd Bowles after four years at the helm. The Jets then replaced him with former Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase.

Gang Green has not made the playoffs since the 2010 campaign.
