The New York Jets have started contract extension talks with wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

The Daily News has learned that Gang Green has initiated contract extension talks with wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, who has emerged as one of the team’s most reliable offensive pieces.

Enunwa, 26, signed a one-year, $2.9 million contract with the Jets last offseason after missing all of the 2017 season due to a neck injury.

Enunwa has once again missed some time this season due to an ankle injury. But despite missing a couple of games, Enunwa still leads the team with 29 catches. He’s also second with 345 yards, just behind Robby Anderson with 346, and also has one touchdown.

Prior to his unfortunate neck injury, Enunwa showed significant promise with a strong 2016 season. During that campaign, he set career-highs with 58 catches and 857 yards with four touchdowns.

Aside from Enunwa, the Jets also have to sort out the futures of his fellow wide receivers, Jermaine Kearse and Robby Anderson. Kearse is set to be an unrestricted free agent, while Anderson is about to hit restricted free agency.

Enunwa has been the most reliable of this year’s group when he’s been healthy, which is likely why the team is eager to retain his services. But the Jets need to surround rookie quarterback Sam Darnold with more reliable receivers this offseason if they want to take a significant step up.
