The New York Jets are yearning to have one of their former defensive tackles back in Sheldon Richardson.

Currently with the Seattle Seahawks, Richardson feels the same way, according to Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News.

The Daily News has learned that Gang Green would to like reunite with former Pro Bowler Sheldon Richardson this offseason after getting rid of the disgraced Muhammad Wilkerson.

Richardson was drafted by the Jets 13th overall in 2013 and played his first four seasons with New York until the team traded him to the Seahawks along with a 2018 seventh-round pick for wide receiver Jermaine Kearse and a pair of 2018 draft picks last September.

It makes sense for the Jet to reunite with Richardson, as the team doesn’t seem to have any interest in keeping disgruntled defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, who is still in head coach Todd Bowles’ doghouse because of disciplinary reasons.

It doesn’t make financial or common sense for the team to play Wilkerson in the final two games against the Chargers and Patriots. His $16.75 million base salary for 2018 is guaranteed only for injury right now. It won’t become fully guaranteed until the third day of the new league year in March, so the Jets would be taking a needless risk to play Wilkerson in the final games.

Richardson is in the final year of a four-year contract he signed with the Jets in 2013, but with parties conveying mutual interests, it’s not a stretch to think that a new deal will be agreed upon once negotiation gets underway.

Richardson has played for 13 games so far this season, racking up totals of 23 tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, to go with an interception.
