Early in the week, reports surfaced stating that New York Jets guard Kelechi Osemele would undergo surgery to repair a shoulder injury that has kept him out of the last two games. However, he has yet to have the procedure, and it's unclear if he will anytime in the near future.

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, two doctors have cleared Osemeli to play, even though he said on Friday that he needs to have surgery. They determined that the injury existed before the start of the season and he will be able to play through it. Adam Lefkoe of Bleacher Report, on the other hand, says that may not be exactly the case.

According to Lefkoe, ‘the Jets have been attempting to delay surgery by sending blank and incorrect MRI images to doctors.' They have gone as far as refusing to release his worker's compensation forms, Lefkoe adds.

Per Costello, the Jets want Osemele to practice on Saturday. If he does not, he will face discipline in the form of conduct detrimental to the team, which can be used to void guarantees.

The Jets traded for Osemele in the offseason, sending a fifth-round pick to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for a sixth found pick and the two-time Pro Bowl guard. Osemele is in the second-to-last year of a five-year, $58.5 million contract. According to Over The Cap, he is due $10.2 million in 2019 — with no guarantees.
