The New York Jets' hunt for a big-time wide receiver ended at pick number 10 of the NFL Draft. They selected Ohio State's Garrett Wilson after missing out on Tyreek Hill and failing to acquire Deebo Samuel.

While the Miami Dolphins paid five draft picks to acquire Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs, the Jets use the pick they obtained from the Seattle Seahawks to draft a rookie. They looked into Samuel but were not able to come to terms with the San Francisco 49ers.

According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, the Jets didn't come forward with a monster trade offer for the 49ers.

Per a league source, the Jets offerd pick No. 10 and a 5th rounder in exchange for Samuel and the 49ers' 2nd rounder, No. 61 overall. Source said the Lions' offer also was “light”.

New York's offer pales in comparison to the trade packages for star wide receivers. Just like with the Hill trade, the Jets came in with a weak offer that was easy to dismiss. Trying to land Samuel and a second-rounder was too much for San Francisco's liking and they understandably shut it down.

Samuel is of the caliber of players like Hill and Davante Adams, who were each traded for multiple picks in the top two rounds. The Jets trying to go for a steal was obviously not going to work. What they offered wasn't even close.

With the 49ers holding strong that it will take a king's ransom to pry Samuel away, the Jets will get to work with Zach Wilson and his new rookie receiver.
