The New York Jets have had a week to rest and regroup and to try and finish their season strong. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, it's going to take quite the finish to the season to prove to upper management that Todd Bowles deserves to keep his job.

“But while players and coaches collect themselves and self-scout during the off week, this much has become clear: Head coach Todd Bowles has an uphill battle to keep his job after 2018, sources say.”

Any hope for Bowles to keep his job might have been lost in the Jets last loss to the Buffalo Bills. The defense was terrible against a quarterback that wasn't even on the roster a few weeks prior. There has been a lot of talk from players about how much they still respect him and how he is a players coach, but he hasn't gotten them to play to the level that is needed to compete in the NFL.

According to Rapoport, Bowles job is safe through at least the end of the year because they don't feel there is anyone on the staff to replace him.

“Bowles is expected to be safe throughout this season, in part because the Jets are now a team that embraces patient and prudent decisions and in part because there is no obvious successor in the building. GM Mike Maccagnan is believed to be much safer than Bowles, sources say.”

The Jets next game is on Sunday against the New England Patriots and it's the first step for Bowles to try and save his job.
