Sam Darnold's horrendous outing for the New York Jets in Week 7 got worse when he was heard saying that he was “seeing ghosts” against the New England Patriots. Despite stating those embarrassing words, Darnold doesn't care about what the microphones pick up.

In Monday night's game versus the Patriots, the second-year quarterback had arguably the worst game of his young career. Darnold completed just 11 of his 32 attempts for 84 yards and five turnovers as New York was shutout 33-0.

After the game, head coach Adam Gase was livid to see ESPN air his quarterback muttering that he was “seeing ghosts.” However, Darnold isn't worried about it and he really shouldn't be.

The USC product was under duress throughout the entire game against Bill Belichick's Cover 0 blitz scheme. Furthermore, the scheme involves New England playing man coverage across the board while they send multiple linebackers or defensive backs to get after the quarterback.

The only thing is, Darnold isn't the only quarterback this season to struggle with it. Before him, it was Daniel Jones, Colt McCoy, Josh Allen and so on. The defense of the 2019 Patriots is historically great; that game said more about them than Darnold.

Throughout the history of the NFL, there has been an immense amount of young quarterbacks who have likely said similar things. However, they didn't have a microphone attached to their body when they said it.

Nevertheless, Darnold will get a chance to redeem himself against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8. The Jets quarterback has been limited in practice after needing to remove a toenail, but his status for Sunday's game doesn't appear to be in jeopardy.
