New York Jets placekicker Sam Ficken knocked in a walk-off 44-yard field goal at MetLife Stadium for the win over the AFC East rival Miami Dolphins (via NFL).

Ficken, 26, bailed the Jets out of an awful second half that had only put up three points (via another Ficken field goal) after second-year quarterback Sam Darnold and the Jets' offense scored 16 points in the first half against Miami. The Jets had previously lost to the then-winless Dolphins in south Florida earlier this season.

With Ficken's game-winning kick, though, Jets fans went home happy, seeing their team avenge a bad loss in Week 9.

Ficken was an undrafted free agent and journeyman kicker who was New York's third placekicker of the season after failing to re-sign Pro-Bowler Jason Myers. Ficken was signed after tryouts for Adam Gase's club following the release of Kaare Vedvik and sudden retirement of Chandler Catanzaro in preseason.

Ficken's last-second heroics uplifting the Jets simultaneously overshadowed Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders, who was 7/8 on the day, scoring all 21 Miami points by himself for the franchise record.
