Minnesota Timberwolves star small forward Jimmy Butler doesn't plan to miss any regular-season games if his wrist is healthy, even if he doesn't get traded by the franchise, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Timberwolves head coach/president Tom Thibodeau is still determined to get Butler back with the team for the start of the season if he's unable to trade his disgruntled swingman.

Butler prefers to play for the Miami Heat. The Timberwolves and Heat have had consistent dialogue, with Miami reportedly pushing Minnesota to accept a revised trade offer on Wednesday night. The Timberwolves reportedly want Josh Richardson, Bam Adebayo and a protected 2019 first-round pick in exchange for Butler. The Heat remain reluctant to trade Richardson and Adebayo, and are more interested in moving guard Goran Dragic and center Hassan Whiteside.

Butler could return as soon as next week, but hasn't made a decision and is still experiencing soreness in his surgically repaired right wrist. The four-time All-Star has been working out at the Timberwolves' practice facility and remained in regular contact with his teammates, including point guard Jeff Teague.

Butler, 29, averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game last season in Minnesota. He shot 47.4 percent from the field, 35.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 85.4 percent from the free-throw line. Slated to make $18.7 million this season, Butler has a player-option for the 2019-20 season worth $19.8 million. If he declines that player-option, Butler will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019.

One of the best two-way players in the game, Butler has reportedly told the Timberwolves he will leave the team in free agency next summer. Butler has reportedly expressed interest in several teams with max salary space, including the Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks.
