After years of trusting the process, the Philadelphia 76ers are now among the favorites to earn a spot in the playoffs next season.

The Eastern Conference may have been watered down due to the departure of some of its stars, but the Sixers are still a team that holds one of the brightest futures in the league today. With a plethora of young and talented players led by Joel Embiid, better days are up ahead for the City of Brotherly Love.

One of the newest additions to the team in veteran shooter JJ Redick recently sat down with Alex Kennedy for The HoopsHype Podcast where he talked about a multitude of topics. Redick also mentioned that the Sixers, armed with young talent and large cap space, have positioned themselves for a serious run at any superstar free agents next summer or in 2019.

This idea may have been laughable two or three years ago. But things are a lot different now. Philadelphia’s core is composed of young players who will be under rookie contracts for the foreseeable future—save for Joel Embiid who’s already entering his fourth year, technically, in the league despite only playing last season—which gives the team that much cap space for a blockbuster addition.

Big names such as Chris Paul, DeMarcus Cousins, LeBron James, and Paul George, among others, could very well be in the running for the 76ers’ new superstar after this season. Interestingly, JJ Redick himself will also be an unrestricted free agent next summer after signing only a one-year deal with Philadelphia.
