Joseph David Keery was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, on April 24, 1992. His father was an architect and his mother was an English professor. All in all, he has four siblings and he is the second oldest of the Keery children.
He was raised in Newburyport where he attended River Valley Charter School, a local Montesorri elementary and middle school, and Newburyport High School. At a young age, he participated in Theatre in the Open, a performing arts camp at Maudslay State Park. He then began acting in high school.
