Let us now learn more about the life of the actor and musician.

Joseph David Keery was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, on April 24, 1992. His father was an architect and his mother was an English professor. All in all, he has four siblings and he is the second oldest of the Keery children.

He was raised in Newburyport where he attended River Valley Charter School, a local Montesorri elementary and middle school, and Newburyport High School. At a young age, he participated in Theatre in the Open, a performing arts camp at Maudslay State Park. He then began acting in high school.

Joe Keery joined the Theatre School at DePaul University and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting.

After graduating from college, he went on hundreds of auditions and he appeared in commercials for KFC, Domino’s, and Nintendo Amiibo. He then appeared in a few episodes of various shows like Sirens, Chicago Fire, and Empire. He eventually made his full-length film debut in Stephen Cone’s 2015 indie drama film Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party.

Joe Keery then had the opportunity to appear in multiple films from 2016 to 2020 such as The Charnel House (2016) where he played the role of Scott. The following year, he was cast as Trust Fund Cole in the movie Molly’s Game. He starred in two films in 2018, first in the comedy-drama film After Everything as Chris, and the horror comedy film Slice where he acted alongside Zazie Beetz and Chance The Rapper.

In 2020, he became the lead in the comedy horror film Spree where he played the role of Kurt Kunkle. However, the biggest mainstream gig that he had on the big screen was in 2021 when he starred alongside Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howery, Taika Waititi, and Ryan Reynolds in the action comedy movie Free Guy.

Joe Keery played the role of Walter “Keys” McKey, a game developer, in the movie that went on to become a major box-office hit. In May 2022, he was cast alongside the veteran actor Liam Neeson in the upcoming sci-fi action film Cold Storage.

To continue with his television acting career, Joe Keery got his big break when he was in the hit Netflix sci-fi series Stranger Things. He initially auditioned for the role of Jonathan Byers, but it ultimately went to Charlie Heaton. He was then cast as Steve Harrington and he had a recurring role in season 1 of the show before being promoted to a series regular from season 2 until the present.

The show continues to become a big hit, especially after a positively-received season 4. However, it is well known that the show will air its 5th and final season sometime in 2023 or 2024 — which is a bummer for a lot of fans, including Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey.

Aside from Stranger Things, he also had a recurring role in the 3rd and 4th seasons of the comedy TV series No Activity. In 2020 and 2021, he appeared as Duke Goolies in the Netflix television special which serves as a mockumentary for the events that transpired in the years 2020 and 2021.

On top of his acting career, Joe Keery is also a musician. Initially, he released music under the name Cool Cool Cool. Eventually, he became a guitarist and a drummer for the Chicago-based garage and psych-rock band called Post Animal. This also helped to add to Joe Keery’s net worth in 2022.
